Most Helpful Positive Review Rab Alpha Flash jacket
I was looking for a lightweight mid layer for cool/cold weather backpacking. This jacket is breathable and at only 6 ounces is very lightweight. Combined with a wool baselayer and a Pertex shield outer layer it should be able to keep me warm enough. I ordered a Large based on the size chart, and although it is a bit snug, it is nice to not have excess fabric under a pack. I'd buy again.

From long, cold expeditions with limited resources to fast and light mountaineering

by Trail Loser, Verified Owner from Taiwan Written on February 11, 2025
Made from the exceptionally breathable Polartec Alpha, the fabric wicks moisture at an incredible rate, keeping you warm and dry even when you're right at your physical limit. With flexible fleece panels either side, Alpha Flash will never hold you back; moving with you no matter how strenuous the climb.

An extraordinary mid-layer

by Terry, Verified Owner from MA, United States Written on March 18, 2024
I use this for downhill skiing. On your first lift ride of the day, you may find yourself a little cold, but once you start skiing, you will warm up and stay that way. A great product. It’s no wonder that Polartec describes its Alpha fabric as active insulation.
Pros:
  • Very light weight but warm
Cons:
  • feels fragile
Best Used for:
  • Skiing, alpine hiking, mountaineering & other cold weather climate activities

Polar Tech Alpha

Awesome piece of kit. Great build quality. Breathes exceptionally well. Dries fast. Low bulk, packs down small and layers well. High warmth to weight ratio. Has a bit of stretch to it and fits close to body plenty of room to layer underneath.Easy enough to layer over. Works well with other materials. In my opinion it is one of the best mid weight mid layers out there. I would not recommend as stand alone with any kind of windy condition would definitely need a top shell to retain any warmth. It also comes in a hoody version. Neither one have hand pockets. I will be ordering more + hoodie. This piece is worth the price do to build quality and multi functional
Pros:
  • Warmth to weight ratio. Packs down small. Stretch and zoned materials. Dries fast. Works well with other materials laying.
Cons:
  • Wind will easily steal heat. No hand pockets with zippers.
