Small, minimalist, very light!

by KarlosJ83, Gear Expert from UT, United States Written on September 10, 2011
I gave this a con for poor temperature control, but hey, its a Trangia, you dont get a Trangia thinking its got the ease of a gas stove. You get it for weight and fail-proof simplicity.
Superlight + easy to use.
I use pot and pan with my gas set up when i need to, or in the snowy hut fires.
Simple, cheap, so worth it.
Most Helpful Positive Review Lightweight is good
As someone trying to reduce weight in my pack this will come in handy. Light weight is becoming a key as I get older.

Effective spirit stove/cook system

by Bill, from MN, United States Written on September 18, 2020
I bought this to replace an identical item that got lost. This stove/cook system has worked very well for me as a solo camper/backpacker for years, even in colder temperatures. I use it primarily to boil water for hot cereal and for rehydration of dinners; I have not used and would not use the frying pan/lid for cooking. One nice feature is that the cover for the burner can be closed partially to create a simmer effect.

Not much else to say—if you've used alcohol burners before, you know what you're getting. To me, the best feature of this particular product is that it snaps shut into a self-enclosed unit that is lightweight and packs very well—no need for a stuff sack or strap to keep it together. A somewhat weak link is the handle, which is like a pair of pliers in that it grips the pot/pan using a clamp action, but I have not found this very problematic—just a little flimsy. In any case, I would buy this again—and, in fact, just did!

Final note: to greatly increase heat efficiency, I recommend using a windscreen—the one that I used for years was basically a piece of heavy-guage aluminum foil that could be bent in on itself to create a closed circle around the stove and pot. Now, I am using a hinged panel windscreen, which I don't like because the panels attach with pins that have a tendency to slide out—but that's for another review.
Pros:
  • Lightweight
  • Lightweight, convenient, works even in colder weather
Cons:
  • Slow boil time, small capacity pot
Best Used for:
  • Solo backpacking or camping

Mini 28 is Great!

by Jeremy P., from CO, United States Written on February 15, 2016
This is a fantastic cook kit! Using the kit will take some practice as the frying pan is small and the burner is powerful. I found myself spilling hash browns while turning them in the frying pan. I wasn't able to adjust the simmer as effectively as the stove allows, I think due to thermal feedback. With practice both issues should be resolved. Others have said a better wind screen would be nice. This maybe true, however in all but strong wind this setup will work very well. In fact a breeze may cool the pans enough to better control the simmer.

Simple Brew kit than needs a windshield

by Neeman, from Israel Written on September 29, 2015
The setup must have a full wind shield around it for the stove to burn effectively
The volume of the pot is just good for hot drinks or freeze dried
The pot is narrow for the flame and comes round the side of the pot
Useable as is as a set but must have a wrap around windscreen

I use it with a wider based GSI aluminum kettle that takes the flame better and the kettle holds more water and bigger to do real cooking

Perfect little stove

I wasn't really after the whole kit, just the stove, but the price was right and I liked getting the stand and the little fry pan is handy dandy.

Great Little Stove

by Mike, Written on December 12, 2013
I use this stove to boil water for coffee. It works great and is easy to light. The flame could be more stable. I'll try to dilute the alcohol to 95% and 90% to see if that fixes it.

Very good buy.

I bought my first Mini T while hiking in the UK after not being able to find fuel canisters for my PocketRocket. It wasn't as fast as I was accustomed to, but it was a joy to use. What was really nice though is that it wasn't noisy and I didn't have an empty canister to carry around or dispose of. For the next 3 weeks I kind of got used to using it everyday. I almost forgot about my PocketRocket u
