Intense forearm burn
I bought the prodigy training board to help keep my grip strength up after the rock climbing gyms closed down due to COVID-19 and I must say that the "beginner" hangboard training routine I found online KILLS my forearms...but in a good way. I would definitely recommend this to beginners. I am at a V5 level at the Touchstone Climbing Gyms in California after climbing since November 2019 and I can feel myself getting stronger.
Pros:
- Many different holds
Cons:
- Large and heavy if you want to travel with it
- can be difficult to set up
Best Used for:
- Everything
Would recommend: Yes
Love the continuous variable edge sizes
I got this hangboard since it was rated highly on OutdoorGearLab.com. The hangboard's two main long edges have a cool variable edge size that gets progressively narrower further from the center. This is a really killer feature since it lets you dial the edge size to be exactly the right difficulty as you get more tired during a workout. These edges range in size from about .25" to .75", so I think most people would find this adequate. I boulder v6/v7 and sport climb in the 5.11+ range, and for me, the smallest edge really starts to get difficult after just a few hangs.
One gripe I have with this hangboard is that the sloper hold is too easy, though I guess I could make it harder for myself by just grabbing the sloper further down where it's less positive.
Another small gripe is that this board is pretty tall, and the 2 and 3 finger pockets are on the bottom. Since I hardly use those, I need to set up a stool beneath the board so I can easily reach the main edges.

Great layout
This is the first hangboard I've owned. After using it for a couple months, I really love the layout and variety of holds. Having three different pinch options is great.

Love it!
I created a DIY blank slate system bc i didn't wanna drop $150. I also created my own pulley system for $5. All in all, it's a great board with lots of hold variety and an outstanding training system. highly recommend this board and am quite happy with the purchase after debating over this one or the beastmaker series!

You know it's the one you really want
I'm most of the way through the hangboard phase of my first Rock Prodigy training cycle, and am very happy with this particular unit. If you're in your ARC phase now and are convinced you'll stick with it, it's time to get one of these.
Give yourself some time to install it properly with a decent pulley system and plenty of subtraction weight. (As an 11+/12- climber new to training, I needed to subtract about 30% of my body weight before I could start to complete my sets on the wide and medium pinches.)
