I purchased the Big Agnes Copper Spur UL4 from CampSaver during the Memorial Day Sale (if you're close to a border, Canadians can ship to a 'receiver' and pick up on a trip into the US to save on shipping and brokerage fees) specifically for a 7 day Juan de Fuca trail hiking trip with my wife and two children (12 and 13). The UL4 was the clear industry leader for lightweight 4 person tents in the price range I was considering and allowed us to reduce our (my) pack weight and our required footprint within the campsites. The tent was simple to set up and handled wind and rain without a hitch. I did take the tent to Lake O'Hara and found that heavy, melting snow tended to collect moisture in certain areas and would leak into the tent - not the end of the world because it was localized but not perfect either. The fly is made of a material I am unfamiliar with and find that it takes longer than a typical fly to dry out. Overall, I think this tent will continue to hold its own on many a trip in the future.

We bought this tent bc we carry gear for 2 parents and 2 toddlers. That adds up on a 2k portage. It is lighter than the 2, 2-man tents from MEC/Hardware that we used to take along. I can't believe how light it really is! There is so much space inside and it comes with 2 gear pockets in every corner. There are some odd angles with the fly that make it feel a bit soft, but firing out the guy lines solves the problem.

I had high hopes for this tent. I have seen so many rav reviews and have always been a fan of Big Agnes.
I soon noticed two flaws in the design that prevent me from using this tent. First. The hub at the "Y" connection has very sharp points that really put a stress on the fly. I'm certain that in time, wind will cause a failure in the material at this point. It could have been addressed by simply rounding the edges at the factory. Second, the angle at which the corner poles relate to the guy lines is very acute. This means very little support is offered and with gentle finger pressure, the corners of this tent cave in. Even if this is a design feature, it would surely be uncomfortable for the occupants. This also stresses the main pole support on the overhead "backbone" pole. The wind would treat this tent like a sail.

Bottom Line No, I would not recommend this to a friend
