I ended up not using the Osprey Exos 38, but did use the Osprey Exos 58 for my 2019 thru-hike of the Appalachian Trail. I originally thought I's use the 38L version for a fastpack of the Superior Hiking Trail, but ended up going down to the Osprey Talon 22 for that purpose. I own an Exos 48 and 58 so I purchased the Exos 38 small for my 20 year old daughter. She is very happy with the lighter weight and comfort compared to her old pack. Excellent quality though the lighter fabrics are not quite as durable as heavier packs. Hard for me to access my water bottle where the side pocket is located
This pack would likely be too big for someone with a 13" torso length. I would recommend looking into youth packs, or let them grow into a pack like this.
