Perfect shell for the adventurer
The Alpha AR has exceeded all of my expectations for a performance shell! My primary use is hiking the ADK 46 in all seasons where protection against heat-stealing wind, staying dry and abrasion resistance are essential. The Alpha AR delivers on all counts. In recent -20 F wind chills, I couldn't fe...

Typical Arcteryx quality but size is odd
As usual with Arcteryx you get the best made gear. I see this lasting a long time.
The negative is something that is a tad frustrating given that I can't get to try on any Arcteryx gear locally so most of my gear purchases are online... I own around 15 Arcteryx items and after my initial sizing suc...

Alpha jacket
Great jacket! I little weird that it has no pockets to put your hands in...but some nice gloves...other than that it is impeccable great color, I got the grey...goretex pro is the best and the drawcords for closing down the openings are great! Nice hidden closures...

Great jacket.
It’s fantastic. Just remember the pockets are a bit different and the back drops way further than the front. The fit is regular so make sure you understand it is baggier than the FL version. I weigh 175 and am 5’11 and the medium was very spacious.

A very good jacket
This jacket works great, bright colors and good water resistance. The function design is reasonable. And compared to other similar products, it is obviously lighter. Some of the shortcomings are that the sleeves are longer.

Not enough bang fr your buck
Great piece, but pricey. I have a history with Arc Teryx, so I like their fit and durability is great. The price point for their stuff keeps going up (faster than competition), so I may have to say goodbye.

Awesome all around Gore-Tex jacket.
I bought this jacket to have as a lightweight, packable bombproof ski jacket for when the weather turns south, and I need more than a softshell. This jacket fits the bill perfectly for me. First off, the sizing is great. It's more of a trim fit than my other jackets, but still has room for layers. I prefer a trimmer fitting jacket since I don't like baggy jackets that get in the way of your motion. The hood is plenty big for a helmet, but is easy to adjust to a smaller size so it fits well just over a hat and allows plenty of visibility. It's also light enough to pack nicely in your day pack, but has tough enough fabric to protect against the elements and hold up to a fair amount of abuse. I've already used it on a couple of short ski tours; one in warmer, windy conditions and one in cold, blowing snow. I found it's light enough to wear even in warmer winter weather, but solid enough for cold, windy conditions when the temps really start to dip. I'll be using this jacket all winter as my go to backcountry ski touring/snow shoeing jacket. It'll also be my spring/fall fly fishing jacket and cold weather hiking jacket.
Pros:
- Lightweight
- bomber fabric
- great hood
- athletic,trim fit
Cons:
- None
Best Used for:
- Snow shoeing
- ski touring
- cold weather hiking
- spring,fall fly fishing

Costs more...get more...
Arc'teryx is a premium priced line of outerwear but, like anything...you usually get what you pay for. If you have the money to spend and want the highest quality...this is it. Extremely lightweight and a beautiful design with no extraneous frills. The goal is to keep warm and dry and you CAN do it cheaper but, not better.
Pros:
- Gives you everything
Cons:
- Cost
Best Used for:
- Anything

Awesome technical shell
First off, addressing previous reviews, this jacket does not fit weird in my opinion. I am 6' 1", 190 lbs, I usually wear medium and medium fits well. It is a more "baggy" jacket, as it is an AR jacket, which means all around. It is meant for layering, if you are looking for a more slim fitting jacket, take a look at the FL or SL. Anyways, done with rant. When I first got, it was very "crinkly" and stiff which I did not like, but with use it softens up a bit. It is a climbing specific shell, so the arms are long, which is AWESOME for climbing and skiing. I found myself alpine climbing in the Bugaboos in Canada stuffing my whole arm into sharp granite cracks, which didn't do a thing to this jacket. I have had it for a little over 2 years now and it has showed no use except for being dirty(which I wash when it gets back with Tech Wash and reapply DWR). Been great for skiing as well. I can use a mid-weight down jacket underneath without restricting anything. Also love the hemlock to keep underneath the harness, not gimmicky at all. The storm-hood is also super boss since you can look both right and left and the hoods moves with you so there is no visibility restriction. All in all it is awesome for climbing and super durable, but also usable for hiking/skiing. Love this jacket.

High quality, however doesn’t fit me well
High quality, however doesn’t fit me well, especially for the chest and arms. It’s too fat for me.

Runs a little large
First and foremost Campsaver is the bomb! I recently purchased the Alpha AR and I must say it is slightly large even for a guy with a weight lifter chest. I'm 5'9 and 190 lbs and usually large fits me perfect. The AR large is more like an extra large. I dare not go medium though as it would be too tight in the arm pits/arms. If you have smaller arms and chest you'd be best suited with medium. The AR does fit perfect with 2 layers underneath though. Apart from sizing, this jacket has every function I need, is well made and nice on the eyes. Definitely recommend it.. -JR-
