The perfect geezer couple tent
Written on Apr 03, 2014
We bought this tent last year from CS and took it out for a few one nighters. It is a bit snug for two people, but weight wise this product is in a class by itself for quality and ultra light weight backpacking. I am 65 and cannot carry the 40# pack that I did years ago. I can go out for a back country overnighter with only 20# because of awesome products like this. My wife and I bought a whole bu

Review for
SteriPEN Steripen Ultra UV Water Purifier
I own an earlier version of this unit called the "Journey". This newer unit seems to fix all of the issues with the older unit. I like this unit (as with my earlier version) as you can disinfect standard water bottles that hold 16-16.9 ounces. Some of Steripens other units will not necessarily fit these standard water bottles. This is great feature for day hikers refilling from natural sources like

Review for
Evernew Titanium Mug 400FH w/Lid
I am a real fan of the ultra light and tough Evernew products. This is a good size for morning campfire coffee. The folding handles are better than my old fixed handle .4L cup. I think that the lid is a gimmick, but my wife really liked it for AM campfire coffee. Who am I to argue with her! Naturally she drank a nationally branded packet of ultra premium micro ground coffee. One packet is perfect

Über light

Very light for a full size backpacking comfort pad. I like the fold-ability. Packs very compact for backpacking. About 40% lighter than my old Thermarest. The Campsaver deal on the irregular model makes this a better choice. Tough to say that the 3.8 R rating is better than the old models, as my hips always get cold, but the weight and compactness make this my first choice.

Geezer Backpacker

I am familiar with this type of tent as I already own a Sierra Designs Lightyear 1 person tent. I like the freestanding aspect of the Seedhouse(a factor not shared with the L/Y). This is a major advantage if you have to relocate the tent after it is erected. You never know what local conditions can develop. I did a backcountry overnight with my wife who is physically challenged. As I had to carry

Not too bad - good flavor

Prepared this on an overnight backpacking trip. Supposed to be dinner for two. It does taste good, quite good, but you need to let it set a while to reconstitute. Makes a great tasting appetizer. By itself it is not adequate as a dinner for two without something extra. My biggest complaint is the packaging. I feel that it is too bulky for backpacking. Basically, it should be in compressed rectangl

Review for
Primus MicronLantern with Piezo Ignition
After using this item, I have elevated my review to five stars. Forget the heavy hard case unless you have an expedition porter. Leave it home. I wrapped mine in my titanium (400 ml) cup with two paper towels for cushioning and it worked fine. The light that it gives off is awesome for the size and fuel flow. At low light and low fuel flow, I estimate about 8 grams per hour. A lighter case for bac
