Most Helpful Positive Review For the money the Hillsound crampons are great.
I recently did a late winter hike/camp into the Dry River Wilderness and early into the hike we had to put on the crampons due to the extremely icy conditions. With fully loaded packs they performed well. Without the crampons we would not have been able to get into where we were going with the weigh...

Most Helpful Negative Review Hillsound XL Trail Crampons
The Hillsounds are nice, however I am very disappointed in Campsaver's lack of informing of delivery date. On a Wednesday I ordered, I requested the 2-day delivery service via UPS, with same-day shipment if ordered before noon (which I did), expecting that the package would arrive on Friday or Satur...

Hillsound Trail Crampons are the best! Carbon steel points!

by Maxsnow, from CO, United States Written on February 6, 2019
I have used Hillsound FreeSteps6 crampons for two years all winter in an urban environment. I walk a 100 lb dog everyday all winter across fields and uneven terrain. Sometimes crossing concrete or blacktop roads to get to these fields. I wear crampons to go to and from my car in the winter because of a sloping North facing drive. This year I realized that I had worn down the Freesteps crampons so much that they had nothing but flat bars instead of points.
I knew that I had to find a better crampon. I did have a spare new set of Freesteps6 to use until I made a purchase.
I bought the Stabilicers and tried them a few times. Replacement spikes were a reason for the purchase. The size is Stabilicers Macro Gry/grn Lg MACRO-750-03

I bought this size because I wear a size 12 trail shoe (Vasque) or a 12 boot (Lowa). I have for two years been wearing the Hillsound Freesteps XL size. These have been a great fit over both shoes and boots.
I find that the Stabilicers feel like a elevated platform compared to the Freesteps6. I think that the rear plate does not come back far enough under my heel and as I walk with a long stride I am not landing with all of my weight over the rear spikes. It is really noticeable on a solid frozen surface or crossing a road. I looked at the size chart again to see if the next size would be better but I think that it will make the fit loose. I do not feel as stable with the Stabilicers as I do with the Freest...

Excellent for ice covered trails

by Christopher Z., Verified Owner from NY, United States Written on January 27, 2019
I bought these based on a recommendation from a friend. Really great. I can confidently hike up and down steep trails that are solid ice. I've seen people on the same trails turn back with "lesser products". The top strap and larger tooth (1.5 cm vs. 1.0 cm) seems to make them different from Kahtoolas which are also very good. They seemed to do fine with those two, so probably could do well with either. These are well build and will bot break or fall apart quickly like some knock off or no name brands do. They also come with a tote to keep them from chewing up gear in your pack when you are not wearing them. When you get back from using them, be sure to hang them up to air dry so they don't rust. Very pleased with this purchase.
Pros:
  • DURABILITY
  • Lite
  • Utility
  • functional
  • safety
Cons:
  • None
Best Used for:
  • HIKING
  • Backpacing
  • Back Country
  • icy trails
  • hard snowpack

Very nice, fit my boots quite well. Definitely always order next size up from what they list as the shoe size range, if putting onto boots of any type.

You will be very pleased

by Rick, Written on February 13, 2016
These shoes spikes are excellence for snow, ice and even mud! This purchase is a replacement for a set I purchased that lasted two Winter seasons before self destruction. I do walk our dog daily more than most here in central Indiana, but thought they should have lasted longer, but for most you will you will be very pleased that you will not be subject to any falls and they will last longer.

Love those crampons

by Helen H., from AK, United States Written on December 3, 2015
We live in Alaska where snow and ice are common. I recently started using the crampons on our walks on hilly forest trails. I was so accustomed to watching where my feet were going that i could not appreciate the spectacular views all around us. No more! Whether it is ice, snow, hard earth, mud, or rocks my footing is firm. My husband has a more expensive pair that are no better than mine. In fact the toe strap on mine allow a greater sense of stability and fit over a broad spectrum of foot wear necessary for this long winter and mountainous terrain. I just bought 7 pair for family members. Easy Christmas shopping.
