While there are many crampon compatable mountain boots on the market today the La Sportiva Nepal Evo GTX is one of the best. First of all they are lighter then the classic makalu all leather climbing boot. There are other companys that make lighter winter boots but the Nepal Evo is one of the boots that will last you a long time whether it is to Everest base camp or your favorite winter trekking place.
Pros:
Great winter climbing boot
Cons:
At $500.00 it is $$$
Best Used for:
Winter Trekking or climbing

OK, I am still wearing them around town and small hikes to break me in.. oops; I mean the boots! Yes, stiff as a board foundation: perfect for mountaineering! Yet so flexible in the ankle, and soft grippy sole are inspiring me to get them broke in quickly, we have snowy peaks and rocks to conquer!
This is my third pair in a row of this brands mountaineering boots: they always fit me like a glove, and last a long time, while being totally comfortable while doing so... I am seriously considering another pair as back up...!
Great, subtle improvements: the toe box lacing lockdown is better than the last pair, and the extra tongues shipped with them were crucial to making them fit like a glove. The ankle lower cut in the back allows great downhill/rock flex, better than the last pair.
If your feet fit these boots like mine do (45): buy them: worth every cent paid! And, CampSaver service is icing on that cake!

Got these for climbing in the Cascades. They worked equally well for trekking up the DC on Rainier and climbing AI3 on the North Ridge of Baker. They did require some break in, but after those climbs they felt great. Stiff, warm, and comfortable - if they fit your feet, they're great boots!

Awesome boots. Haven't used them for mountaineering yet but they perform great on ice (have tested them up to WI 4+ thus far). Loved that there was no break-in period. My first time out with them was a 10k 5 pitch, 8 hour day. No blisters and no pain at all. Wish they were a little warmer for cold climbing days in the Canadian Rockies but good socks and heating packs generally eliminate most of that discomfort.
