The MSR Pocket Rocket 2 is a reliable, powerful, incredibly compact backpacking stove. Weighing just 2.6 ounces it has a 3-minute boil time for a liter of water, simmers like a champ, and has pot stands that are easy to fold out (or in). The stove will fit just about anywhere in your pack, and will heat your meals or water with ease.

I own several MSR stoves. Bought my 1st whisper lite back in 1988 and still use it! My son bought the pocket rocket for scouts so I bought the pr 2. There is a flaw with the set scre* where the bottom of the burner assembly mates with the valve. The scre*s just come loose all the time on their own. This is very frustrating but even worse was MSR'sRead more about review stating Awesome for compact and minimalist backcountry adventures. warranty department's response. They told me to put some scre* lock on it and pretty much too bad for you. This is making it problematic for me to recommend this particular product and has made it difficult for me to decide if I should buy the fancy new one with the lighter integrated.

Very small and compact, but super powerful. Great to take on thruhikes and backcountry camping. This thing is like a jet. It can boil a cup oh water in about a minute. Very useful when you're hungry after a day outdoors.

Quite possibly the best backpacking stove on the market dollar for dollar in the premium product line. Case holds the Piezo Igniter for lighting to make it a great all in one kit that fits just about anywhere.
Best Used for:

Great lightweight backpacking stove. Exactly what I was looking for. Easy to use, quick setup and fast boiling of water. I also added an Optimus Clip-on Canister Stove windshield that greatly shortens the boil speed by cutting down on wind interference.

This thing work pretty good. The stove boils water very quick which is all you can ask. Lights easily and holds a flame fairly well in windy conditions. The stove is super lightweight and comes in a nice compact container. The arms are bit small and are kind of hard to keep the pot on.

Hard to believe that a stove that only weighs 2.6 oz can put out so much heat. Considering that most of my other stoves are 10000 BTU's, and the PocketRocket is 8200, it still does a nice job. The wire loop flame adjuster is easy to reach and control. MSR says this stove can hold an eight inch diameter pot, which seems to be a stretch. I don't think I'd try that without adding a canister stand. You lose some stability by making the stove fold into a small size - my Primus Classic stove is clunky, but very stable. Also like my Primus stoves, you can't add a windscreen.
As someone else mentioned, the folding seems a bit clumsy at first. Probably because it does compact down into such a small size. The carrying case is a nice addition to keep the stove from getting damaged when stuffed in a pannier.
Best Used for:
- Bikepacking
- backpack camping
- bicycle touring
