Most Helpful Positive Review Great stove system. Has a quirk or two but heats water fast, is very reliable and very easy to use.
Bought this stove around summer last year. I have used to several dozen times in varying conditions. Just got back from Assateague Island Natl Seashore with this and made half of our group coffee in the AM in 20mph winds. The good: It heats water very fast. The design is very efficient and well thou...

Most Helpful Negative Review Stopped Working 2nd Time I Used It
Fortunately I was just camping with family and not on a mountain in the snow. The thermocouple safety device went bad the second time I used this stove and wouldn't work. I love a lot of MSR's products but won't buy a stove from them again. Very disappointed especially given the price and positive r...

MSR WindBurner 1.0

by Andrii, Verified Owner from DE, United States Written on February 26, 2025
An outstanding stove all around. If you know what you want and dont have unreasonable expectations this is the heat. Literally. Ive had and used the “other” popular brand as well, they are poor performers / poor quality compared to the MSR. I actually giggled like a kid the first time I used this, the boil time was so ridiculously fast it surprised me. Zero and I mean zero complaints after a couple months using this. True MSR quality

Great Solo Cook Kit from MSR

by Walter Bates, Verified Owner from TX, United States Written on June 22, 2024
Bought this a year ago and it is my go to cook kit when backpacking in expected windy conditions or in the mountains. At just under one pound (excluding fuel canister) I have found it to be light, fuel efficient and compact thus easier to carry, use and pack on longer backpacking trips (150 miles not 2000 mile thru hikes). Having all the pieces contained within the pot helps me keep track of all the pieces (no more hunting around in my pack). Pressure regulator helps keep the flame well controlled at elevation and colder temps. Not sure why some folks have issues with the thermocouple shut off protection as it is resettable (as explained in manual) and I personally like and respect the MSR engineering behind this product. I also like MSR products because I can get parts should I ever need them in the future (made to last not throwaway). * I also purchased a collapsible sea to summit X Cup 8.3floz cup which fits over the stove canister fitting but inside the pot, protecting both the fitting and pot while providing a nice cup for hot drinks. My only con is that I enjoy several cups of hot chocolate or coffee with my dehydrated meals and thus am looking at the larger 1.8 liter duo which is designed for two but in my case would allow more drinks.
Pros:
  • relatively lightweight
  • Fuel efficient
  • self contained
  • Excellent build quality
  • MSR engineered product that is compatible with a range of different pots, skillets and accessories
Cons:
  • Am considering buying the 1.8 liter compatible pot for cooler temp hikes
Best Used for:
  • When IsoPro fuel canisters are available at resupply points.

I recently bought mine from mountain warehouse and I can only say that this one’s is way better than the others on the market, I had an original jet boil and wanted another one when I looked at the latest ones bearing in mind that the original was over 9 years old, the retailer said what about an MSR so I bought one, I have used it so much to boilRead more about review stating An amazing stove water for tea and coffee and cook some meals, this is by far a well made and very easy to use. Love the stove...BUT...

by Renegade, Verified Owner from DE, United States Written on July 24, 2023
The system is great in terms of maintaining a steady flow of heat in the windiest of conditions. Boils water in now time. Weight for backpacking is quite reasonable. Just wish support would respond to my request to order another strainer lid since my last one blew away in the wind at Joshua Tree. I'm probably not the only person interested in variRead more about review stating Love the stove...BUT....ous replacement parts.
