Excellent Jacket

by KarlosJ83, Gear Expert from UT, United States Written on September 10, 2011
The jacket was well constructed. It breathed very well. At the base of the ice climb I took the jacket off and placed it on the snow. Due to warm weather water was was running off the ice and puddled onto the jacket. No water leaked through. I like the Event material and the Rab jacket.
Most Helpful Positive Review Excellent hard shell
This is a very well made shell - just about the best I've seen. I've used it in wet and windy high altitude situations, and it performed flawlessly. I was always the driest and most comfortable member of the group. The hood fits very well over a helmet, and I've never worn any waterproof shell that breathes as well as eVent. Add in Campsaver's pricing and excellent service, and this was an unb

Nice technical jacket fairly lightweight

by Don, Verified Owner from NY, United States Written on May 14, 2019
I got this shell as a lightish weight snowboarding shell for warmer wetter days in upstate/ADK NY. I have a couple other gore tex pro shells (marmot and Armada) that are heavier and have more snow sport specific features (more pockets, snow skirts, avalanche reflectors, lift pass pockets etc). I wanted to try an event jacket and decided on the Latok. First impressions are that the dv expedition fabric is much lighter in weight than the gore tex pro shells but has the similar grid backing fabric. The fit is a bit tight for a dad bod like mine but I'm 6ft and 200 lbs and an xl fits with room for a base layer and a thin mid layer. Sleeves are plenty long and the nice long pit zips are a nice feature. I'm curious to see how the event membrane performs vs the gore tex pro next season. All in all it's a great jacket. Would I pay $500 for it? I'm not sure any shell is worth that but at the deep discount at campsaver with a coupon code it's an awesome deal.

Rab Latok hardshell

by Gerard L., Written on October 26, 2014
First jacket I've had in years that is stiff enough that it feels like it needs to be broken in. Heaviest hardshell in the Supertopo reviews, to me feels like it may be heavy duty enough to withstand the abuse I will dish out. I have worn it, aid climbing in the rain, so:
Good points - thoroughly adjustable hood big enough for a Petzl Ecrin helmet underneath, 4 pockets, all set high enough to ride over the harness, heavyish fabric across shoulders and down to wrists, looong sleeves (good for me, I have a 37" sleeve, and am able to wear the Latok in a L, typically I have to wear an XXL to get the cuffs to my wrists), an upward reach does NOT cause the jacket to ride up. Big negative: I have barely any lats to speak of, and the sleeve opening pulls at my armpits...that said, that tightness was not noticeable while climbing. Small negatives: Weirdly, the zipper pull lives on the LEFT half of the zip... just an oddity, and the pockets don't have flaps. Maybe you trust uncovered zips, maybe they work? Very trendy, but I don't trust 'em. Major positive - I was able to find this jacket for one third the price of an Arcteryx, which seems to be its nearest competition. On me, 6'2", 195#, I can get about a 4" pinch of fabric on the front, just enough to squeak a softshell underneath. Perfect. If I lose weight, I'll be able to fit a down jacket underneath, and would try the size M, hoping the sleeves would still be long enough.
On a scale of 5, I give it a 4.5 to 4.75.

lasted a little over a year

by outdoors, from MI, United States Written on May 5, 2014
Nice shell while it lasted... which was only a little over one season. Zipper is a problem, broke and developed a small tear where it was attache to the shell body. Resorted to my 14 year old EMS gore tex shell to get through the winter.

One of the standards for mountaineering

by Joe, Written on September 10, 2013
This is probably the burliest full eVent shell jacket you can find. It's heavier than the rest, but the fabric is built to withstand many seasons of use and abuse. It is full featured and is not in need of any extra pockets. It also has pit-zips which I will rarely use because eVent breathes so well.

I personally prefer the Montane Super-Fly XT for the weight savings in the setting of full fea

Functional Durable Weatherproof Shell

by cookie, from CO, United States Written on September 10, 2013
Was looking at this shell for about a year before i bought it. The 2012 version has an updated front zipper with storm drain and internal/external flaps. So far the zipper seems to be great, easy to use with gloves and does not snag and zips easily unlike some of the "weatherproof" zippers. The pockets are weatherproof however, and work great and look fancy.

I compared this jacket to almost all

Serious gear

by QuietlyMakingNo, Written on September 10, 2011
I take my gear pretty seriously, because if you're going to spend hard earned $, then I want it to last. I've been happy w/ my old patagonia gear, but needed something tougher for serious skiing through trees and backcountry.

It's irreplaceable. - check that- first one had a factory flaw in the snap- Rab replaced it no questions asked. FYI- it's a british cut by a british company for british ch

Best Jacket Ever!

by Les, Written on September 10, 2011
Best choice in terms of breathability, professional outdoor design. Comfortable and storm waterproof. I have had extreme goretex jacket for 6 years and used it on countless climbing expeditions (Mt. Blanc, Matterhorn, Grossglockner etc.) but I wasn't happy with it (sweat condensation inside the jacket). I decided to buy a new gore jacket and I did then I did a research on internet and found out ab

Great, but doesn't fit women....

by Winter Cyclist, Written on September 10, 2011
This jacket has everything you would want in a harsh weather shell, but sadly, the cut did not fit me. If Rab makes an E-vent shell parka with pit zips for women, I'll buy it! I had to return this one, unfortunately. I'd recommend this jacket to a male friend, but not for a woman. Also, it does run small overall. I'd go up one size.

Excellent Hard Shell

by KarlosJ83, Gear Expert from UT, United States Written on March 15, 2010
Great hardshell. Very well designed. Abundance of pockets. Comfortable. Well manufactured.

One nit: I would have liked a sleeve pocket for items like car keys.

Highly recommended

I liked it it fits well.

by Mark, Written on August 8, 2009
I really like the hood on this jacket, I've tried on a few jackets and the hoods were massive. I've been told that it is to accommodate a helmet.
However I don't see wearing a football helmet or a motorbike helmet on any adventures. This was the only jacket I've found that fit me well around the head.
Awesome placement of pockets, and nice long zips under the arms.
I will say the colour in the pic
