Most Helpful Positive Review K10's - Solid
The K10's were up on South Sister at 10k strapped on to my Dynafit Pantera trail runners. With the low snow this year, they were on & off frequently as we crossed scree, early morning glacier ice and late afternoon slush at 30 degree angles. The K10's stuck in like glue, were easy to strap on/off and felt super secure. They'll be in my pack for early season Cascade volcano walk-up summits- a nice solution for those folks wanting more than Microspikes, but who cringe at carrying a full on crampon "just in case".

Get A Grip!

by Grey Bear, Verified Owner from WI, United States Written on February 27, 2023
I absolutely love my new Kahtoola K10's! They have just the right amount of bite with 3/4" spikes and they are made of high carbon Steel, 4130, which is the same alloy we use in the aviation world if we have to spec out steel for structural strength. I purchased these crampons specifically because this coming summer I will be backpacking the PCT Southbound and there is a real possibility that these Kahtoola K10's may be my best friends! I am bringing Micro spikes also, but if there are an absence of boot prints before me, I will trust these K10's to get me through the steep slopes that on the north faces will still perhaps be snow covered and consolidated.
As for getting these crampons adjusted properly, Kahtoola suggests you set them up fully adjusted before you get out there in the cold! So heeding this Sage Advice, it only took me about a half hour of reading then doing to get them dialed in. Their instructions are short, to the point, and well illustrated! The most time was spent installing the snow release skins over the spikes on the bottom side of each crampon. This is done only after you have adjusted the crampons to fit your boots or trail runners. They must be stretched on over the spikes and they are tight! But yes, do this now in the warmth of the indoors, because it will be a real wrestling match to try and get them pulled onto the crampons if they are stiff from cold temperatures! Once they are all adjusted you can unbuckle them and they will always be re...

Alan

Excellent for the purpose I wanted - use on snowy and icy trails where there is not enough snow cover to use snowshoes. On ascents on trails I attach snowshoes to external straps on my pack and as I ascend and reach deeper snow, remove the snowshoes and replace with the crampons, spikes pointing outward

I took these into the backcountry 4 miles. Performed flawlessly. Adjust before use. Took less than 1 minute to put on and start hiking. I did recommend to a friend. He choose military surplus and now regrets, HA!

Great entry level crampons for winter

by Cascade climber, from OR, United States Written on April 3, 2014
Been wanting a pair of crampons for ice/mild glacier travel for a while now, but have been reluctant for a traditional pair, since I do not have mountaineer boots, nor wanted to make that investment currently. The winters don't get that cold here in Oregon, so my gortex trekkers do the job perfectly for winter travel (with a nice thick wool sock, of course), but there are times on hikes where I d
