Most Helpful Positive Review Outstanding design. Less puffy than the Rab Neutrino.
Almost anyone looking at the Mountain Equipment Vega will probably be considering a very comparable Rab Neutrino Endurance. There are slight sizing differences. I am athletic 5'8, 160 pounds with a 40 inch chest. A medium Rab Neutrino (chest size 38-40) feels tight in my armpits even at rest. The Mountain equipment sizing medium (for 40-42) feels much more comfortable in the armpits even with motion. The water resistant Drylite extends into the hood and inner hem on the Vega. HOWEVER, I have a hard time believing this jacket has the 8+ ounces of down that the manufacturer claims. Even when acc...

I bought women's version

by kendra, Verified Owner from MA, United States Written on February 28, 2019
Bought as a bivy parka for winter hiking, planning to take it to Mt washington in NH this weekend. I bought a Womens M and Men's S (I usu wear womens M jackets, 5'7). Mens had more arm room, slightly longer, but was tighter around the hips -- and I have NO hips. So hippy women-- definitely stick w/women's version! It seems good quality and fits a little smaller than I would expect for a Men's S. Nice length for me and I'm 5'7.

Great Jacket

by David, from MD, United States Written on April 15, 2018
First impression: Very warm and comfortable and light weight. This is the lightest and warmest jacket i own, and it can handle weather around 40s with wind chilled with just a shirt and this jacket. i only gave this jacket a 4 stars because i wear this jacket as the outer layer, and the material is a little too thin (30D) for my taste. i would have prefer a thickness of at least 40D. i have a feather that is starting to stick out from the inside of the jacket, and it is not coming from a seam but from the shell itself. that is why i believe the materials is too thin. i brought this jacket on sale and below $200. if the price were the same, i would have gotten the Mountain Equipment Lightline Jacket. i believe the lightline would even be warmer than the vega, and the lightline also have a thick shell at 40D. but overall, i am happy with my purchase as long as i don't find any other leakage of feather from other spots.
Pros:
  • Warm and Comfy
Cons:
  • Shell may be too thin
Best Used for:
  • cold weather

Can't go wrong with a Vega

by JensHolsten, Written on April 3, 2014
The Vega is my go to piece for climbing in the mountain ranges of the Lower 48 during winter. I also use it in arctic climbing environments like the Alaska Range. It is warm and lightweight, but most importantly has a performance cut that allows me to climb in the jacket if need be. It is extremely weather resistant and tough as nails. You can scratch up a chimney in this jacket without losing a f

Ultra Warm jacket for Mountaineering

by Woody, Written on October 3, 2013
This is my go to jacket for winter skiing and mountaineering in the cascades. Super warm, I've used it down to 0 degrees. Fit nicely over shells and other layers. Lives in my pack all winter long, I can always count on being warm wearing it. The shell sheds snow nicely and seems pretty durable. The hood has stretch built into the baffles and fits nicely over a hat or helmet without having to fiddl
