I have two strata hoodies: light and warm. It is breathable for all activity just shy of the full on aerobic uphill grind. Great wind resistance and the hood fits perfectly. I use it ski touring, backpacking and Mountaineering.

This jacket does everything it was made for. It is warm yet breathable when you start to move. I was skeptical about the windproof rating while still achieving breathability but it stood true when climbing during a windy day. I did not feel any wind whatsoever come through the jacket. Will also keep you warm well into the 30 degree range if layered well.

I've been running around in the Starta Hoodie for about a year now.
I first got it during one of our best backcountry skiing seasons for a while. If I'm dinking around on fish scale skis, then it will usually breath well enough that I can keep it on. If I'm tossing skins on, then I will probably drop down to a tee-shirt anyways, but it is just enough insulation for heading down or when sheltered from the wind. In the winter it is also an awesome ice-climbing layer.
Once rivers start flowing in the spring, it's a great insulation layer underneath my drysuit. The hood is low enough profile that it stays out of the way, and it's got a nice cut for paddling till it's a little below freezing. If it's seriously below, I'll toss on a down jacket like the Microlight.
During the summer it will come with me for a camp jacket (and sometimes pillow) on sea and whitewater kayaking trips, and I'll bring it out sailing.
Often it will be my wander around at work jacket through most of the year.

Exactly what I was looking for. I'm 6'1", 180, and the L fits perfectly. Not too form-fitting, not too loose, and the arms are exactly the right length. Generally weatherproof, breathable, and lightweight. Solidly, even elegantly put together.

I got this jacket because my TNF jacket was getting old and I didn't think that it was very warm for the price I paid. This jacket is really lightweight and feels great on the skin especially in the sleeves. Also the material that touches the front of your face when you zip it up all the way feels GREAT!! I would definitely recommend this jacket for anyone looking for a jacket that they can wear during Fall, Winter, and Spring. This jacket is super breathable. The hood does look a little boxy and weird looking but I like it because it's warm. I live in Maryland and we just got hit with a ton of snow (1/23/16 - North Potomac, MD received 30+ inches of snow) and this jacket kept me very warm when I went shooting the weekend after. I went to an outdoor range and was shooting for the majority of the day - close to 9-10 hours in the cold. Temperatures were in the 20s to 30s with winds up to 40mph. This jacket feels very thin but kept me warm. I also love how close the hood is to the face and shuts out the wind nicely. The jacket manages to keep its loft really nicely. The pockets are all very large and nice. The hand warmer pockets also have a nice soft and warm material on the inside that feel great. The only parts of my body that were cold were my hands and feet. My hands could've been warmer if I had better gloves on but since I was shooting I couldn't wear my nice warm mittens. The wind resistence on this jacket is great. Also the pertex microlight feels great to touch and isn...

It seems to have heavier insulation than the Marmot jacket I bought year before. I wanted something heavier and RAB jacket is hopefully it.

I recently been at the gym a lot and gained a lot of mass. Most of my jacket are size small and they were getting too tight. I didn't wanted to spend money on 5 different jackets (outer layer, insulation, soft-shell, wind-shell, etc) so I got this piece. It suppose to be able to do it all.
So far, I am very impress with this jacket. I can put it on top of my sweater for those cold winter morning and late night walk with the dog. I've taken it running in well below freezing with just a t-shirt underneath. I cross country skiing at -10 C (14 F) with wind and it does a decent job. I only have a light merino layer underneath and I was building up sweat, but it keep me warm the whole time. Even when I stopped for 15 minutes for a water and snack.
It's so light and windproof that I know I'll be using this during my camping trip. It would be very warm to put on in the middle of the night in front of the fire.
It pack into it own pocket, which is nice and it has three huge pockets. It resist rain fairly well, but that probably won't last forever because of the DWR. The hood is fairly comfortable as well.
My only complaint is the jacket doesn't hold it form very well. The Polartec alpha insulation hold is shape very well, so they didn't bother sewing baffle. Which keep the jacket more windproof and better insulated, but it does feel flimsy. I have to use two hands to close the two hand pockets.
Don't want to spend money on a few jackets? This is a good alternative.

I've owned several hiking jackets and this one, without a doubt, is the best I've used. The reason is because of it's amazing balance of breathability, lightweight, wind and water resistance, and warmth. The fact that the hood doesn't restrict my peripheral vision is a huge plus and another reason I bought this jacket. I mainly use this for hiking/backpacking and it's proven itself. I recently did a 15 miler and the the temps were in the upper 30s (F) and the jacket kept me perfectly warm with only using a thin base layer underneath. When the temps got a little warmer during the day, I wasn't overheating in the jacket due to the breathable characteristic of the material and design. I've been so impressed with this jacket that I bought a second one to use around town.

This is the first time I've purchased a product from Rab. I've had this jacket for almost a month. I've been wearing this jacket during the fall season in Chicago. This jacket keeps me warm when the temperature is in the mid 30F. During April showers, it has successfully kept me dry and warm. I've washed this jacket once and it has kept its shape and warmth. This jacket is not as light as my Mountain Hardware Nitrous, but I think I like this jacket a little bit more. I'm happy with this purchase and this will not be the last time I purchase a Rab jacket.

I shop a ton online with REI and Amazon and one thing that makes my experience a good one are the FedEx Return labels I can print off. Sometimes I have to pay 2-3 dollars in restocking fees (probably the returns cost) but in the end I don't have to go out of my way to ship the product back if u need to. In my mind FedEx makes returns easy. I look forward to buying a tent from you next month and to take my son on his first night hike this spring. Happy holidays. Keep up the awesome site. Look forward to shopping with you for years to come.
