Most Helpful Positive Review Excellent hat!
Have had this hat since mid 90's. Versatile, lightweight, waterproof, stuffs down small, great build quality. Use it for rain when backpacking and for general winter wear with snow, rain or sleet. Folds flat into a pocket easily. Would buy another, but this one still is like new after years.

Waterproof, but hot

This hat has a wide brim and should be very waterproof with Goretex, but I hike often in hot weather and it has no ventilation. I will look for something else that has some mesh and will not be so hot .

excellent rain hat

If you need a rain hat, this one is made of Gore-tex to deflect rain and warm material inside to keep your head waterproof and wind stopper. I bought it for my friends who just lost his hat in mountain and we know the hat is the best one and the good stylish, so happy to buy it again.

Stylish rain hat...

Everybody has an image of the type of hat that works best for them so, the style of a hat is very subjective but, if you need a rain hat, this one is made of Gore-tex and still is able to look good. This is not a sun hat...it's pretty warm even though it has a wide brim to keep the sun off your head...it was designed to deflect rain.

  • Rainy weather or cold sun hat

Perfect Hat

This is my second Seattle Sombrero- it's perfect for hiking and kayaking. It's comfortable and protects my head from the sun. The Velcro makes it easy to wear with the brim turned up or down. I love that it's waterproof and keeps my head dry in the rain. This is a high quality hat. My only complaint is that the lining makes it hot in the summer.

I met the hat at Church

I had an old hat similar to this one but about 15 years old. After a month in Africa It gave up so I was looking for a replacement. I searched high and low and finally decided on this one but in my heart I wondered If it would be as good as my old one. At after church reception I saw an old backpacking buddy with my new hat. I was pleased to know that he had had it for 5 years and was delighted with the hat. History tells me that this was a very good choice. It is going to Florida for a month of bicycle touring down the keys. Joy to all.

Outdoor Research Seattle Sombrero

NOTE: This hat has an inner Velcro pull tension strap built in, so you can fine-tune it to fit your brain pan perfectly. I am a guy who wears around a 7 1/4 and I bought the large and with a ever so slight adjustment of the Velcro strap it became my favorite hat. It is so light you forget you're wearing it. Moreover, if you want to have fun with it, go ahead and stand in an absolute downpour -- your head stays perfectly dry, in fact 100% dry. The longer bill in the back keeps water off your neck, and in front it keeps it off your glasses!! The skull coverage has the Gore-tex liner in it, and the brim has this 100% waterproof foam-like substance in it for, again, 100% waterproof coverage!! DO YOU WANT TO STAY DRY, THEN THIS IS THE HAT TO BUY MY FRIEND. YOU'LL THANK ME LATER. MINE IS OVER 5 YEARS OLD NOW, AND STILL IT IS 100% WATERPROOF.

Perfect for Seattle rain!

Even though I usually wear a small, I ordered a median and it fit perfectly. A small would be good for teenagers.
